Privacy

What we collect.

Short version: very little, mostly for our own analytics, never sold, deleted on request. The longer version is below.

Visitors

If you’re in the EU, the UK, or California, a small banner asks before any analytics cookies load. Decline and no cookies get set. Google still sees an anonymized signal that someone visited (this is called Consent Mode), but you don’t show up as an identifiable individual anywhere, and we get no information about who you are or what you looked at.

If you accept (or you’re visiting from a region that doesn’t require consent), we use Google Analytics 4 via Google Tag Manager. What that gives us: which pages people read, how they got here, what browser they used, and a roughly-anonymized location. We use it to make the site sharper, not to follow you around the internet.

We don’t run ad networks. We don’t buy advertising data about you. We don’t sell data. We don’t share visitor data with anyone, including our clients.

If you send a note

The contact form on this site is handled by Formspree, a small US-based form-processing service. Your submission sits in their database briefly, gets emailed to us at jason@stepchild.co, and lives in our inbox after that.

We use what you send to reply. We don’t add you to a mailing list. We don’t pass your message to anyone outside Stepchild. If we don’t end up working together, we keep the email in our archive for our records and a fading memory of what was on your mind that month.

Your rights

Email jason@stepchild.co and tell us what you want and we’ll do it. That covers GDPR (EU/UK), CCPA (California), and anyone else who’d rather not have their data sitting around. You can ask us to:

Show you everything we have on you. Delete it. Correct it. Export it. Stop using it for analytics. Stop emailing you. Take you off the form-processing service’s records. We’ll do any of those within a week, often the same day.

You can also change your mind about analytics any time. Clear your browser’s site data for stepchild.co and the consent banner will reappear on your next visit.

Questions

Email us.

We answer privacy questions the same way we answer everything else: like humans, same day, with a real reply.
